Correction
Until today this page called 2026 the most hot days Nottingham has recorded by this date. It was never true. 1995 cleared the same bar on more days, and we had set 1995 aside as too incomplete to rank.
That exclusion was the mistake. A year with gaps in it can only count too few days, never too many, so its total is a floor rather than an estimate. A floor above ours is not a year we cannot compare with. It is a year that beat us. The filter meant to protect the comparison removed the one year capable of disproving it.
No temperature changed and the bar did not move. What was wrong was our rule about which years were allowed to argue.
